My son has been driving his pathfinder since Christmas and a few weeks ago told me it was vibrating. So, Tuesday we jacked it up and I slid under it and grabbed this front driveshaft and was able to torque it and see the play in the ujoint. Pulled out the shaft which is a pain because you cannot get a socket on either side of the bolts so you have to use a wrench with another slipped on it as a breaker.
Finally got it out and hammered out the ujoints, decided to do both while I had it out. Called Nissan out of morbid curiosity, $300 per ujoint - $75 for the ujoint and $225 for labor. Informed the nice chap that I would consult with my wife and call back (not gonna happen). Picked up 2 aftermarket ujoints for $17 each and watched my son install them. It's nice to see him try without me having to step in and just do it for him. Will have him put the shaft back in tonight when I get home. I'm sure he will fumble around using the wrenches together again, but I'm sure I looked completely dumbfounded the first few times I tried to do that.
Just wanted to share!

That's awesome, I just did the front in my cruiser, but I sent it to a driveline guy for balancing, installation and balance was $80. The joints were $35 each.

Later on I had to ask him for my $300. Of course he had no idea what I was talking about until I mentioned how much money he saved having me work on it lol.
I even used a clamp to press the ujoint together. Like the one in the middle or bottom. Which surprisingly worked.

It's not back in yet, I'm hoping I don't have to get the shaft balanced. I'll find out in about 2 hours.

mine wasn't too far out, but at the prices he was charging, I couldn't say no. I was putting it in the night before I was leaving for Moab so I wanted to make sure it was done right.

I don't think $80 is too bad. I have no idea what kind of machine they use to check balance. I assume it's not something they use all the time. I would be surprised if it ever paid for itself.
